A: Most grant writers are transactional, they assemble a proposal, hit submit, and move on. We provide end-to-end support that protects your leadership's time, strengthens your funding readiness, and ensures you can actually deliver and report on the grants you win.
BHODS is a strategic growth and operating partner for behavioral health organizations. We don't just write the application; we integrate funding strategy, program evaluation, quality improvement (CQI), and compliance reporting into one cohesive approach, personalized and customized to your organization's unique scenario, strengths, and goals.
Here is why executives and clinical leaders make us their obvious choice:
◆ True End-to-End Support We stay with you beyond the submission. From identifying high-leverage funding opportunities and designing scalable programs, to building the scorecards and reporting systems required after the award, we support the entire lifecycle of your funding and performance.
◆ Competitive Peer Review Process For high-stakes submissions, your proposal doesn't just get written—it gets stress-tested. Our peer support review process brings 30 to 50 years of combined expertise to the table, simulating funder scrutiny before your application ever leaves the building. This means scoring gaps get caught, narratives get sharpened, and your submission competes at the highest level.
◆ Personalized & Customized to Your Organization We don't use templates or one-size-fits-all frameworks. Every engagement is built around your specific population, service model, data landscape, funder requirements, and organizational priorities. The strategy, language, and deliverables reflect your reality, not a generic best practice.
◆ Specialized Behavioral Health Expertise We don't do generalist grant writing. We focus exclusively on behavioral health, FQHCs, health equity, and community wellbeing. We understand the regulatory constraints, clinical realities, and policy nuances required to win complex, multi-million-dollar proposals.
◆ Integrated Evaluation & CQI A winning proposal is only as good as your ability to prove its impact. We embed data strategy, quality assurance, and sustainability from day one. We ensure your programs are not just fundable, but measurable and aligned with what funders actually demand.
◆ Senior-Level Execution & Alignment You won't be handed off to junior staff. You work directly with senior consultants who speak the language of frontline providers, executives, and policymakers alike. We translate your complex clinical work into clear, compelling metrics that resonate with reviewers at every level.
If you are tired of managing fragmented contractors and want a true thought partner who takes the execution burden off your team, from initial strategy through peer review to final reporting, we are built for you.

A: Winning the award is just the beginning, and this is where most grant writers disappear. We don't.
BHODS provides post-award support designed to ensure your team can execute confidently from day one. Depending on your needs, we help with:
Implementation planning — translating your funded proposal into a realistic operational timeline with clear milestones, roles, and deliverables.
Reporting & compliance setup — building the data collection systems, dashboards, and reporting workflows required by your funder before the first reporting period hits.
Evaluation & CQI integration — ensuring your outcomes framework is embedded into daily operations so you're not scrambling to prove impact at year-end.
Ongoing advisory support — providing strategic guidance through your first grant cycle so your team builds internal capacity and a strong track record for renewals and future funding.
We believe the real value of a grant is in the execution, not just the award letter. Our goal is to make sure you can deliver on what you promised and position your organization for sustained growth beyond a single funding cycle.

A: It depends on the complexity of the opportunity, but here's the honest answer: the earlier you engage us, the stronger your submission will be.
For standard proposals, we can typically deliver a competitive submission within 4 to 6 weeks when your team is responsive and key organizational documents are accessible.
For complex, multi-million-dollar applications (SAMHSA, CCBHC, HRSA), we recommend engaging 8 to 12 weeks before the deadline to allow time for strategic design, internal alignment, peer review, and revision cycles.
Can we work on a tight timeline? Yes, we've supported urgent submissions with as little as 3 weeks' notice. But we'll always be transparent about what's realistic given your timeline, and we'll never sacrifice quality for speed.
The best-case scenario: You bring us in early enough that we're not just writing under pressure, we're helping you design a stronger program, align your data, and build a proposal that reviewers can't ignore.
If you have a deadline approaching and aren't sure whether there's enough time, reach out anyway. We'll give you an honest assessment within 24 hours.
-
Absolutely. Many clients bring us on as external evaluators, either in the post-award phase or during proposal development to strengthen their competitive edge.
-
Your internal team safeguards day to day performance. We elevate it. We bring cross sector insight, funder aligned strategies, and the capacity to execute at a higher velocity. We transform evaluation from a compliance function into a competitive advantage that wins funding, strengthens positioning, and accelerates growth. We can also uplevel your staff through ongoing advisory and skill development, ensuring your internal team continues to operate at a higher standard long after our engagement begins.
-
A: Less than you think, and that's by design.
We built our process to minimize the burden on your leadership and clinical teams while still producing a proposal that authentically represents your organization.
What we handle:
Proposal strategy, structure, and narrative development
Budget construction and justification
Evaluation design and logic models
Data integration and outcomes framing
Funder alignment and compliance review
Peer review and quality assurance before submission
What we need from you:
A few focused conversations (typically 2–4 calls) to understand your programs, population, goals, and organizational context
Access to key documents (org chart, prior proposals, data reports, strategic plans)
Timely review and sign-off on drafts at defined checkpoints
What you won't experience:
Endless meetings that pull your clinical leads away from patient care
A 47-question intake form that sits in someone's inbox for three weeks
Being handed a half-finished draft and told to "fill in the gaps"
We act as an extension of your team, not another thing on your plate. Our job is to take the execution burden off your shoulders so you can stay focused on running your organization while we build something fundable, measurable, and ready to implement.

If the opportunity is a competitive funding award of $500,000 or more, we offer a 30-minute expert review session with a recommended go- or no-go decision.
Here’s how it works:
You submit the opportunity via our intake form.
We’ll conduct a strategic review call with one of our senior consultants as your Point of Contact.
The cost is $150, and if you move forward with us for full proposal development, we’ll credit that fee toward your contract.
Whether or not we recommend pursuing it, you’ll receive our honest, expert assessment including red flags, strategic positioning tips, or reasons it may not be the right fit.
Our goal is to help you avoid wasting time and effort on low probability proposals and focus on opportunities where you can win and grow.
-
Once we agree to work together, we’ll guide you through a kickoff that includes mission alignment, background materials, past applications (if any), and key outcomes you'd like to achieve.
Expect to have 1 to 2 meetings with your team members in most cases.
